We protect the Baltic Sea.
About Us Foundation.

The Baltic Sea Conservation Foundation was established in 2014

with the main aim of promoting environmental protection and nature conservation in the Baltic Sea Region.
Our headquarter is based in Greifswald, .

Germany at the eastern coast of the Baltic Sea in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern

Baltcf is administered along the “Principles of Good Practice for Foundations” – that have been agreed by the Association of German Foundations – and the “Initiative for Transparency in Civil Society” – coordinated by Transparency International in Germany.
It is important for us to be transparent in the way we present our finances, our funding criteria, our organisation and the projects we support.
As a non-profit organisation, baltcf is subject to the German foundation law.
The foundation has no commercial activities.
The Board of Directors and Board of Trustees work on an honorary basis and the administrative effort is kept to a minimum.

The Managing Director represents the foundation in on-going affairs

How we work.

The foundation acts as a donor for nature conservation projects in the Baltic Sea Region

We are a very small team of two people with voluntary board members that, next to managing the foundations assets, jointly takes all decisions about project support.
We provide match funding for projects that plan to implement practical and conservation-oriented solutions to the ecological problems of the Baltic Sea as defined in our statute.
All activities must have an immediate impact and a realistic as well as predictable long-term effect.
Applicants can submit project concepts to the foundation twice a year, .

Which will be assessed by the management and discussed with the Board of Directors

Successful concepts receive an invitation to submit a full proposal.
We try to assist and give advice to applicants before submitting ideas to us and we appreciate if our funds help to leverage other national or international project funding.
As our main goal is the improvement of ecological conditions we usually do not support projects that primarily aim at research or environmental education.
